DDBA 8510 Week 1 Discussion Redesigning Your Global Supply Chain

Discussion: Redesigning Your Global Supply Chain

Technology advancements have fueled the global economy and impacted the ways in which businesses design their supply chains. One cup of Starbucks coffee comprises materials from various countries and represents numerous supplier relationships. In the age of the global village, designing supply chains is similar to conducting a massive orchestra; achieving harmony requires strategy, planning, and impeccable execution.

To prepare for this Discussion, select an organization with which you are familiar (or about which there is adequate public information available) and do some research/information gathering on the organization’s supply chain, including areas of strength, weakness, opportunities, and threats.

By Day 3

Post an analysis of the supply chain for your selected organization in order to identify structural and/or process improvements and create efficiencies. In your analysis, do the following:

·         Describe the organization’s current supply chain. List the key components and include the key stakeholders, vendors, technologies, and—if applicable—modes of transportation involved.

·         Based on your research of the organization’s supply chain and your assessment of its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, explain how you might redesign the company's supply chain for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Focus specifically on improvements in structure, process, etc. Outline the key inputs and outputs of your redesigned supply chain and distinguish the suppliers that merit partnership status. Justify their status with specific reasons.

Be sure to support your work with a minimum of two specific citations from this week’s Learning Resources and at least one additional scholarly source.

Refer to the Week 1 Discussion Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this rubric to assess your work.

DDBA 8510 Week 1 Assignment Foundations of Global Supply Chain Management Taxonomy

To prepare for this Assignment, review this week’s Learning Resources as well as any additional sources of your choosing. Conduct research to identify theorists who developed theories related to global supply chain management and compile key information as part of your review (see below). One example, is the Eli’s Goldratt’s theory of constraints. Other examples might include the transaction cost economics (TCE) and resource-based view (RBV) theories. The intent of this Assignment is to familiarize you with theories that you will find helpful as you complete your presentation and your Week 7 Assignment.

By Day 7

Submit an evaluation of at least three foundational theories in the form of a properly formatted, APA-compliant taxonomy table. For each of the theories you select, you should include the following:

·         The name of the theory

·         The year the theory was introduced

·         The theorist/author

·         Key components of the theory

For each theory presented, be sure to include at least one theorist’s seminal reference and one reference from a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal. Be sure you use these as appropriate in-text citations as well.

Refer to the Week 1 Assignment Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this rubric to assess your work.
