DDBA 8101 Week 1: Doctoral Study Mentoring
Welcome to Week 1 of Doctoral Study Mentoring.
During the first course in this program, you were introduced to the DBA degree and were also exposed to doctoral-level research, writing, and academic integrity, helping to set the stage for your Doctoral Study. It may have also been your first experience in the interactive online course environment and your first step toward establishing long-term relationships with your academic colleagues. As you continue progressing through your doctoral program, you will encounter many opportunities to develop and enhance your relationships, and this unique course is designed to encourage that process. It provides a forum within which you may interact with your Doctoral Study Chair and discuss the development and design of the components leading to your Doctoral Study.
This week, you will continue working toward your Doctoral Study. Also, you will communicate with your Doctoral Study Chair and continue developing a strong and collaborative relationship. Additionally, you will establish a set of best practices for the successful completion of your Doctoral Study. In beginning your high-level approach to completing the Doctoral Study, you will continue to examine and familiarize yourself with the DBA Doctoral Study Rubric and Research Handbook. Also, you will proceed with the review process for your Prospectus, Proposal, and Doctoral Study. Finally, you will explore resources on scholarly writing that will help you master the communication style and format you will use to write the Doctoral Study. Additional readings will include scholarly peer-reviewed articles and seminal works to support your Doctoral Study.

Your Discussion posts should be substantial and include references to scholarly sources and/or the Doctoral Study Rubric and Research Handbook, when appropriate.
Use the following suggestions to assist you in developing your Discussion posts:
· Make a suggestion or share an insight about your work on one or more components of your Doctoral Study.
· Ask a probing or clarifying question.
· Offer and support an opinion, providing evidence to support your claim.
· Validate a posting with scholarly sources.
· Expand on your colleague’s posting.
By Day 3
Post your initial response.
Refer to the Week 1 Discussion 1 Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this rubric to assess your work.
Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.
DDBA8101 Week 1 Discussion 2 Annotated Bibliography
Discussion 2: Annotated Bibliography
In each week of this course, you will research and select three (3) peer-reviewed, scholarly sources to develop an annotated bibliography that you can use in your Doctoral Study. You will need to take the three sources and synthesize the references into a single narrative annotated bibliography that compares/contrasts or supports your study. For example, you may develop three references that will fit into the Nature of the Study (or any other component) and then the synthesized version will help you in developing your Prospectus/Proposal. Please see this week’s Learning Resources for the Sample Annotated Bibliography Template, which you should use to complete your annotated bibliography.
By Day 3
Post your synthesized annotated bibliography narrative that includes an explanation of how these references relate to one or more components of your Doctoral Study and incorporates specific references to the Doctoral Study Rubric.
Refer to the Week 1 Discussion 2 Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this rubric to assess your work.
